Hurlebaus Meeting

Informative meeting. Discussed plans for piezoelectric research. Energy harvesting for a structural control seems out of the question for now. Focus will be shifted from energy harvesting to learning how to use a piezoelectric sensor on a column to sense the strain the column experiences. This data will be sent to a controller which will have a force output for the MR damper to apply to the building.

Things to do:
  • Need to derive an equation to relate acceleration with the column strain. Review Mechanics of Materials [y''(x)]
  • The piezoelectric sensor will go on the optimal location on the column (highest curvature the column experiences)
  • PZE model: anti-symmetric configuration: relation between strain and electrical energy(?)
  • Get started on MR damper model on Matlab/Simulink
  • Find MRD constants (k0, k1, k2, m0, m1, m2, c0, c1, c2, etc.)
  • Barroso meeting Thurs. 10-28 , 2pm: discuss MRD control* and Chapter 1 thesis content.
